Valencia power outage affects hospital, thousands

A power outage Monday morning left 3,268 Southern California Edison customers in Valencia without electricity and affected Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, officials said.
Equipment failure caused the outage about 11:30 a.m., said Anna Frutos-Sanchez, Southern California Edison’s public affairs regional manager.
The outage did not affect the medical care operations because a backup generator provided alternate power within seconds, said the hospital’s spokeswoman Laura Young.
“Patient care was not impacted,” Young said. “However, the patients don’t have (televisions) right now, so (they) might be disappointed or bored if they’re missing their favorite show or Monday night football.”
By about 5 p.m., repair crews had restored electricity to all customers except for the hospital and were still working on the problem, Frutos-Sanchez said.
