A Canyon Country man arrested for annoying or molesting minors and for illegal possession of a gun is due in Santa Clarita Court on Tuesday, said a sheriff's official.

Herman Stevens, 22, was arrested in Canyon Country after asking two 17-year-old girls to flash him, said Santa Clarita Sheriff's Lt. Mark Hershey. Stevens is a convicted felon with a previous record of carjacking, Hershey said.

While at a Canyon Country 7-Eleven on Friday evening, an intoxicated Stevens asked the girls to expose themselves, he said.

"(The girls) didn't do it, so he picked up his shirt to show them how and he displayed he had a semiautomatic pistol under his waistband," Hershey said.

The girls reported the man to a deputy who was making a traffic stop nearby.

When Stevens fled from the deputy, a containment area was set up around Walnut Springs Avenue and Wellhaven Street, near Whites Canyon Road.

"They found him hiding behind a car," Hershey said. "They found the gun two driveways up, underneath a car."

Deputies arrested Stevens about 6:30 p.m.

The teen girls responded in the right way, Hershey said. "They didn't show Stevens a thing," and they calmly sought help, he said.
