Vakay, I know why I’m thankful

This is in response to Lynn Vakay's sermon on "To whom should Americans be giving thanks?" (Nov. 20).

I don't know what planet Vakay is on, but I was always under the impression that the pilgrims came to our great country for freedom of religion and to keep church and state separate.

My own ancestors came to America to avoid religious persecution and to be able to worship the God of their choice. I think it is extremely presumptuous, offensive and narrow-minded for Vakay to assume everyone believes what she believes.

In my home, we give thanks for our good health, the food on our table, the soldiers who are fighting for our freedom and good fortune to live in a country like ours where one is able to believe in what they choose, not what our president tells us to believe.
