Don’t raise taxes, cut spending

On Nov. 25, Gary Horton wrote a column ("Don't mess with Texas") in which he called for "reforming" Proposition 13 in order to raise more tax revenues to the state, primarily from businesses.

He completely ignores an alternative solution: cutting all the obscene spending this state's government authorizes on all those liberal scams, like services to illegal immigrants, outrageous pension benefits to unionized state government workers and all the rest of the boondoggles that are bleeding this state like a razor slash to the jugular.

I find it simply mind-boggling that, even in spite of deficits as far as the eye can see running into tens of billions of dollars, liberals never talk of cutting spending.

They seem to have a genetic flaw that only allows them to try to find ways to keep increasing our already onerous tax burden, both in this state and at the federal level.

Now - in a climate in which the companies that provide the jobs are already fleeing this state in droves, driving our unemployment rate up to more than 12 percent - here's yet another column calling for increasing taxes on businesses.

Amazing.
