Detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's COBRA Team are searching for a suspect who allegedly shot a Newhall man Wednesday night, officials said Thursday.
The shooting, which occurred in the 24000 block of Race Street in Newhall, is believed to be gang-related. As of Thursday afternoon, no arrests had been made, and Sheriff's officials had released no information about any suspects.
The victim, a 28-year-old man whose name was not released, suffered two gunshot wounds - one to the hand and one to the leg. The injuries reportedly were not life-threatening.
Deputies responded to the location after there were reports of gunshots shortly after 9 p.m., and began searching the area for their suspect.
During the search, deputies from the Sheriff's Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) North County Crime Impact Team made an unrelated arrest of a 21-year-old man and Newhall resident for possession of methamphetamine and possession of a dangerous weapon. The weapon recovered was a dagger.
