A crying shame

I am in complete agreement with your Nov. 6 editorial "What were the voters thinking?"

It's a travesty that Kathy Colley was elected to the Newhall County Water District board but Michael Cruz was not.

I don't live in the district but I walked precincts for Cruz.

I'm not a salesperson or a paid canvasser, so it's not easy to knock on strangers' doors and speak to them about a candidate.

I did it because I care about water, our precious resource, and because I firmly believe Cruz is by far the better qualified candidate.

The comments Colley made expressing her blatant lack of knowledge and lack of interest in water issues is an affront to the residents of the water district.

If she were an employee she would be fired for saying such things. Since she's elected, you're stuck with her.

Yes, what were the voters thinking if they chose candidates by their stated professions; Colley, a nurse, over Cruz, a paralegal?

If I knew nothing else about Cruz other than his profession paralegal I would assume his experience with law would benefit the district when confronting legal matters.

I don't see how experience starting IVs or changing bedpans would be more beneficial to managing a water district.

Does it make you wonder how she'll do the job of a Newhall County Water District board member?

I'll guess she'll take orders from her husband on the Castaic Lake Water Agency board and the SCV Republican Machine. That may serve their political interests, but it certainly doesn't serve the interests of the ratepayers.
