America is changing

Regarding "DNC Targets McKeon," (Nov. 17): You state, "The congressman drew strong support from constituents at a town hall meeting ..." in his opposition to the health care insurance reform bill.

Well, the reason for that is the majority of residents were afraid to attend these right-wing rallies.

I can tell you that at our recent block party, almost all of the residents in our northern Saugus neighborhood were strongly in favor of the reform measures.

We feel that it is a national shame that as a country we no longer feel any compassion for our fellow citizens, the 47 million who face life deprived of basic, humane access to health care because our representatives are more concerned about their campaign donations from the insurance lobby than they are for the rights and needs of middle- and working-class Americans in their districts.

America is changing. We're more moderate as a nation, and representatives who ignore our moderate voices and kowtow to fundamentalist, dogmatic right wing positions do so at the peril of their elected posts.
