McKeon: 'Stimulus reporting goes awry'

Nine non-existent California Districts listed as receiving $5.79 million in stimulus funds

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Following reports by ABC News, Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) is expressing serious concern about the "facts" being presented to the American public and how their tax dollars are being spent under a mismanaged stimulus package.

"The Administration's own Web site is laced with inaccuracies on jobs created or so-called ‘saved,' dollars spent, and now even basic information on Congressional Districts," McKeon said in a statement Wednesday.

"On Recovery.Gov, the Administration has listed nine - that's nine - districts in California that don't even exist. Those phantom districts are listed as having received $5.79 million from the federal government. I want to know where that money actually went.

"This is laughable and frankly, frightening to think that this is the type of information being disseminated to the public. As reported on Oct. 20 on the Recovery.Gov Web site, California's 25th Congressional District was listed as having a little over two jobs saved or created thanks to over $17 million of ‘stimulus' funds invested.

"Now on the same Web site, in two different locations, the Administration has listed that the 25th District has 166 jobs and 93 jobs saved or created. What are the real numbers?

"Either way, the Administration promised 8,900 jobs to the 25th District, and with over $224 million now listed as having been spent, I think we should have at least that many - not two jobs, 93 jobs, or even 166 jobs.

"Where are the jobs and the factual accuracy?"
