The titles keep piling up for The Master’s College men’s soccer team.

And they keep coming at the expense of Biola.

The Mustangs outshot the Eagles 16-10 and got key saves from goalkeeper Kevin Lawson to beat Biola 3-1, winning the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday at Reese Field and securing an automatic bid to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Tournament.

“It was fantastic,” said TMC head coach Jim Rickard. “We just put a great, full, complete game together. We were moving the ball, defending well and we had some great finishes. Just really played a complete game.”

TMC (16-2-2) also beat the Eagles (13-4-2) 2-1 on Oct. 31 in both teams’ regular-season finale to clinch its first-ever regular season GSAC title.

Now, the Mustangs await tonight’s pairings for word on Saturday’s opponent and venue for the opening round of the NAIA Tournament.

If TMC wins, the team would advance to a 16-team tournament in Fresno on No. 30.

The Mustangs opened up a 3-0 lead against Biola with goals from Jacob Marchesani, Joel Peluffo and Marlon Lindo.

Marchesani’s score came in the 15th minute with assists from Doug Armstrong and Peluffo.

Marcelo Silva and Brian Gardner recorded assists on the subsequent goals in the 46th and 64th minutes, respectively.

Biola finally got on the board in the 71st minute, when the referee called a contested hand ball inside the 18-yard box.

Marco Ruvalcaba knocked home the penalty kick for the Eagles, registering the game’s final score.

Lawson finished with five saves, while Biola counterpart Aaron Fenlason recorded six.

“We are just a solid, complete team,” Rickard said. “Someone is going to have to beat us, because we are not going to beat ourselves.”
