Allen Smudde, D.D.S and Kelly Smudde, D.D.S and their dental team collected 622 pounds of Halloween candy from the children of the Santa Clarita Valley on Nov. 2

The Smuddes organized the event to help prevent tooth decay in SCV children and to benefit members of the armed forces.

Sgt. Matt Forness, Sgt. Franco, and Sgt. Pabey were standing by to accept the candy on behalf of Operation Gratitude. The candy will be shipped to troops overseas in their holiday gift baskets. In exchange for their Halloween haul children received Go Army items, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and dental floss, as well as $1 per pound of candy they surrendered.

"There were even a few children who came back to donate the money that they received for their candy to the troops," said Kelly Smudde.

A raffle for an iPod was also held. Winners were: Evan Young, Charlotte Dunne, Brandon Yukawa, and Melissa Forness.

The Smuddes dental offices are located at 27450 Tourney Road Ste 250. Valencia, CA 91355. (661) 259-4474.
