Santa Clarita is accepting applications from artists for a public art project along the Golden Valley Bridge. Recent projects have included the California Bear project at Valencia Heritage Park.

You may soon see oak trees and rolling hills painted on a wall beneath the Golden Valley Bridge in Canyon Country.

The city of Santa Clarita is looking for artists who can add a splash of color to the wall as part of the city's Art in Public Places program.

The bridge, which crosses over Soledad Canyon Road, has five pre-cut spaces on a wall beneath the bridge for artwork with iconic Santa Clarita images.

The Santa Clarita's Arts Advisory Committee will be selecting an artist or group of artists to create a piece of artwork that reflects the heart of Santa Clarita, including oak trees or images from the city seal.

Artist teams are encouraged to apply and artists must submit a proposal that includes an Artist Proposal form with a complete full color drawing of the proposed artwork, a letter of interest no longer than one page explaining the artist's interest in the project, a current resume for each artist, five examples of the artist's work in any visual medium and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Artists may include up to three selections of supporting materials such as reviews, news articles and awards.

Applicants must also submit a budget identifying all aspects of the project, including artist fees, creation of the artwork, and installation charges.

Artists will be selected based on their concept, relevance to theme, and budget of the project.

The project is open to all artists at least 18 years of age. The deadline to submit materials to the Arts and Events Office is June 20. Application materials can be sent to Golden Valley Bridge Art Project Arts & Events Office at 23920 Valencia Blvd., Suite 120 Santa Clarita, CA 91355.

Forms are available online at or at the Arts and Events office located in Suite 120 in City Hall.

For more information, call the City's Arts and Events office at (661) 286-4018.
