Detectives were searching Wednesday for two men who attacked a deputy during a traffic stop and then drove away, authorities said.

The fight began about 8 a.m. after a deputy pulled over a white Nissan pickup truck in a parking lot near Golden Triangle Road and Carl Boyer Drive, said Lt. Mark Hershey.

The deputy reportedly told the driver, a man who appeared 25 to 35 years old, to sit in the back of his patrol car after the driver could not locate his driver's license and vehicle registration, Hershey said.

The driver then allegedly took a swing at the deputy and the two started fighting, Hershey said.

Another man, the truck's passenger, then joined the brawl, attacking the deputy. Both suspects then drove away, Hershey said.

The deputy was released after being treated for cuts and bruises at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, Hershey said.
