After two days of not having a home, Santa Clarita Christian has one to start defense of its CIF-Southern Section Division I 8-Man Football championship.

The Cardinals will host Southlands Christian Saturday at noon at College of the Canyons.

The game was originally scheduled to be played Friday night at Canyon High, the home site for the Cardinals. But Canyon is hosting Saugus there Friday night, which caused SCCS head coach Garrick Moss to look for alternatives.

He tried Canyon and Valencia high schools on Saturday, but both stadiums at the schools will be occupied.

College of the Canyons is hosting its regular-season finale Saturday night against Bakersfield at 7 p.m., but allowed the Cardinals to play there earlier in the day.

Now that a site is in order, the Cardinals can concentrate on the playoffs.

Southlands Christian of Walnut will be a heavy underdog, despite having the same 5-4 record as the Cardinals.

The Cardinals are the No. 3 seed in the 16-team tournament.

If the favorites win in the postseason, a trip back to the title game would include a second-round matchup with Hesperia Christian and a semifinal game with Thacher.

The Cardinals beat Hesperia Christian 66-42 on Oct. 3, then dropped two games in a row.

SCCS was without defending Division I Player of the Year Collin Keoshian in both games, which included a 48-16 defeat at the hands of Thacher and a 48-0 loss to the playoffs’ No. 1 seed, Windward.

Thacher beat SCCS up pretty good in the game, as the Cardinals suffered three key injuries.

Yet SCCS bounced back to win its final three games, including a 40-34 victory over No. 4-seeded Faith Baptist last Saturday in the regular season finale.

Moss said, except for a few bumps and bruises, his team is healthier than it has been at any point during the season.

“We feel confident we can play with anybody,” Moss said.
