Veterans groups and city officials are scheduled to hold events Wednesday to commemorate Veterans Day, while city, county, state and federal buildings - including schools and post offices - are set to be closed.

The one local public school that will operate as usual on Wednesday is College of the Canyons, which closed in observance of Veterans Day on Monday.

The city's annual Veterans Day Ceremony will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at the Veterans Historical Plaza in Old Town Newhall, at 24725 North Walnut Street.

For the event, the city is working with the Veterans' Historical Committee, local Blue Star Moms groups, Prayer Angels for the Military and the Knights of Columbus. The ceremony will honor military veterans and families. For more information call the Arts and Events Office at (661) 286-4018.

Meanwhile, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6885 in Canyon Country will hold an event at 11 a.m. that will include guest speakers, post officials said. A short ceremony will be followed immediately by a hot dog and hamburger barbecue with live music, lasting several hours.

The VFW Post 6885 is located at 16208 Sierra Highway. For more information, call the post at (661) 252-6885.
