Alternative Gift Fair
Who: St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church
What: The Santa Clarita Valley Alternative Gift Fair offers a way to avoid stressful shopping while simultaneously giving you an opportunity to select creative, purposeful gifts. Twice as many organizations are participating this year, including SCV Food Pantry, Angel Interfaith Network, New Leash on Life, Ten Thousand Villages, Hillside Homes for Children and Episcopal Relief and Development.
“The Alternative Gift Fair is a different kind of shopping experience,” says Mary Jo Higginbotham, chairperson of the event. “It’s a non-profit response to consumerism, in a festival, market booth setting. The gifts you purchase always fit because they revolve around your loved ones and the issues you care about.”

Tales of escape from Nazis
Who: Chabad of SCV
What: Zvi Bielski, son of Zus Bielski who - with his two Russian brothers - helped more than 1,000 Jews escape from the Nazis in World War II. The Bielski family’s story was revealed by the major motion picture, “Defiance.” Chabad of SCV will host Bielski as a guest speaker. Tickets costs $15 in advance and $18 at the door.

Sharing grief
Who: Care Ministry at Grace Baptist Church
What: Surviving the Holidays seminar which is free and open to the community. The holidays are a time when the difficult emotions of grief hit even harder. People need guidance and encouragement to make it through.

Grief Share program                                                                 
Heart of the Canyons Church and New Life Church
What: Grief Share program. For those who are grieving the loss of a loved one, you don’t have to go through the grieving process alone. Grief Share is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk along with you through one of life’s most difficult experiences.

Who: Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Parish

Don Piper guest speaks
Who: Guest speaker at Valencia United Methodist Church
What: Don Piper will speak at the church. Piper is the author of best-selling book, “90 Minutes in Heaven - a True Story of Death and Life.” Piper has traveled across the country and around the world sharing his story. A book signing will follow. Admission in $10. Proceeds will support the Santa Clarita Valley Emergency Winter Shelter and a Nicaraguan mission — Project Chacocente, Tickets are available through the church office.
