Lunetta has labor unions all wrong

The dignity of labor was earned, not given voluntarily.

Steven Lunetta’s misinformed opinions regarding labor unions stated Nov. 2 (“Unions are rising like a phoenix”) was so wrong, I don’t know where to begin.

He writes: “(S)urveys show that private sector employees merely want fair treatment, respect and a voice on the job.”

He’s absolutely right, and the Labor Movement was forced to go to the mat with business leaders to get what they have and need to continually do so in order to retain and improve the rewards of collective bargaining.

Call it a union, guild, whatever — M.D.’s, Teachers, Engineers and other such professionals have associations that champion social and business interests in behalf of their members.

Would Mr. Lunetta have us work under the conditions of companies and factories overseas where American jobs have been outsourced?

It appears he would have labor return to a 19th century labor environment. Leaving it up to employers alone is utter nonsense.
