The Signal and Red Brick Pizza in Valencia threw a pizza party Thursday night for The Signal's 500th and 1,000th Facebook friends.

By special arrangement with Red Brick partner Eddie Kaladjikian, 500th Signal Friend Wendy Boloz of Santa Clarita and 1,000th Signal Friend David Hoyos of Valencia each enjoyed a free family dinner featuring a large pizza, salad, breadsticks and beverages, compliments of The Signal and Red Brick Pizza.

Boloz, a sales rep, brought her 5-month old daughter Samantha, and Hoyos, owner of Feathers Printing in Canyon Country, brought his mom Gladys Hoyos, sons Daniel and Juan Pablo Hoyos, and girlfriend Michelle Winston to the restaurant at 25343 Wayne Mills Road, in the shopping center at the corner of Magic Mountain Parkway and Tourney Road.

"It's always fun to win something and to win a free dinner just for being a Facebook friend of The Signal when I read their paper anyway -- what a deal!" Boloz said later. "To top it off - hats off to Eddie Kaladjikian and Red Brick Pizza. He was so generous and threw in four more dinners for me and my family! What a surprise! Thanks to Eddie, and Jason and Stephen from The Signal, for a fun-filled night!"

"When (The Signal) sent me the message, I was pretty excited and got my whole family together to join me at the pizza place," said Hoyos, who started a Facebook page at his girlfriend's suggestion, to network with friends in his native Columbia and to help promote his Santa Clarita Valley-based business.

"The food was great," Hoyos said. "We told Eddie we wanted something different and he made a chipotle pizza for us, which had a nice snap. Then he made us one with Thai chicken, which was like Asian food on a pizza. That was great, too. Eddie was a really nice guy."

"It certainly was fun meeting some of our Facebook friends face to face, and the pizza by Eddie and Red Brick was stellar," said Signal Online Editor Stephen K. Peeples, who coordinated the party with Jason Price, The Signal's multimedia account exec and Web specialist.

"As we continue developing The Signal's social network, we'll have more get-togethers like this with friends, so stay tuned," Peeples said.

The Signal's Facebook name is Scv Signal, and as of today, the page counted 1,256 friends.

The Signal also has several Twitter accounts, with more than 660 following the main account, SCVSignal.

The Signal's Facebook friends and Twitter followers receive headlines, intro text and links to Signal news, sports, features and more as stories are posted to The Signal's Web site at

"Our friends and followers have grown exponentially in numbers and helped us boost our Web site traffic to new highs over this time last year, when we started our Facebook page and Twitter accounts," Peeples said.
