Golden Valley and Canyon will both be looking for their first win tonight, but the two schools enter the game on very different notes.

The Grizzlies lost to Saugus last week but scored 26 points in the second half, which is more than they had scored all season.

"We're trying to build off it as much as we can," said Golden Valley head coach Andy Campbell. "With the excitement we had on the sidelines, something clicked."

Canyon (0-8, 0-3), on the other hand, came up two feet short against West Ranch.

The Cowboys trailed 23-18 and drove to the Wildcats' 1-yard line, but quarterback Jonathan Jerozal was stopped short on a fourth-down scramble.

Just a sophomore, Jerozal has thrown for 1,623 yards and nine touchdowns this season.

His favorite target has been freshman wide receiver Drew Wolitarsky, who has caught 35 balls for 649 yards and five scores.

Junior running back Trent Hernandez rushed for 195 yards last week, and he gives the Cowboys another young weapon in the backfield.

Golden Valley (0-8, 0-3) has some young weapons of its own.

Sophomore running back Jeff Coprich had two touchdowns last week, and sophomore quarterback Reid Soliman has improved.

"We're the most dangerous team coming into any game this week because we've had a taste of success," Campbell said.
