SCV observes Memorial Day today, Monday

Eternal Valley tribute enters 20th year

Santa Clarita Valley residents have the opportunity to observe Memorial Day in several ways today and Monday.

Today at 10 a.m., the SCV Chapter of the Blue Star Mothers holds its annual tribute to local men and women in the military. The ceremony is outside Santa Clarita City Hall, 23920 Valencia Blvd., Valencia 91355.

Today and Monday, Whole Foods Market in Valencia is hosting a barbecue event from noon to 3 p.m.

On Monday starting at 10 a.m. the 20th annual Memorial Day Tribute to Veterans will be held at Eternal Valley Memorial Park and Mortuary.

In addition to color guard presentations, speeches and a 21-rifle salute, there will be two flyovers by military planes. The event will last roughly an hour.

There will be some seating available; attendees may also bring chairs. Street parking will be available.

Eternal Valley is located in Newhall on Sierra Highway, just south of the intersection of San Fernando Road.

The Santa Clarita Aquatics Center will be open Monday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The official summer opening is June 14.
