Stick with English

Regarding "City defends English forms," Nov. 1: Santa Clarita has grown tremendously in the last few years. I am glad to see that the city is taking an active stance to beautify downtown Newhall. However, I believe the city should continue to only offer its grant forms in English. I understand that many of Newhall residents speak Spanish, but the language spoken in this country is English.

I am not asking the Latino community to fully assimilate the American culture into its lifestyle, but it would be nice to see them attempt to learn English. I frequent many businesses in this community where English is not the primary language spoken, but they at least attempt. European nations such as France demand that the residents speak the language of the country. I hope the city stays with its plan to offer the grant loans in English only.

My family immigrated to this country from Romania and they had no problems learning English. America has become far too sympathetic to the Spanish-speaking community.
