With a dominant victory over Saugus on Thursday, the Valencia girls tennis team has now won or shared eight consecutive Foothill League championships.

The Vikings are also looking to break new ground in the postseason. They’ve made four straight trips to a CIF-Southern Section divisional finals but lost every time.

Still, both streaks are impressive accomplishments, and they are the latest runs of success for Foothill League athletics.

Here are some other notable streaks:

Current streaks

Hart swimming

The girls team has captured at least a share of 27 straight league championships, a run that dates back to when Hart was in the Golden League in 1983.

Additionally, the boys have won 22 league championships overall.

Saugus cross country

The Centurion girls have won three straight CIF State championships, the first two coming in Division I in 2006 and 2007 and the third coming last fall in Division II. No girls team at any level has ever won four consecutive CIF State championships, and the Cents will look to change that later this season.

The Saugus boys and girls have both won three straight Foothill League championships and are in good position to win their fourth in a row at the last league meet this Thursday.

The boys program has won 82 straight league matches and nine straight league championships. The Vikings won CIF titles in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2008, and they were named national champions in 2008 by studentsportsvolleyball.com.

Valencia’s girls program has won seven straight league titles and currently has a one-game lead over second-place Hart with two to play in the race for the 2009 title.

Valencia softball

The Vikings have claimed a share of nine straight Foothill League championships and a pair of CIF-Southern Section Division I championships in 2007 and 2008.

Valencia also finished the 2007 season ranked No. 1 in USA Today’s Super 25 softball rankings.
