A 23-year-old Santa Clarita man died in a crash on the northbound Highway 14 freeway Friday, authorities said.

Officials had not released the identity of the crash victim Friday night because his family had not been notified, said Sgt. Tom Lackey of the California Highway Patrol office in the Antelope Valley.

About 5 a.m., the man was was driving a 1999 Ford SUV northbound on Highway 14 when the vehicle crashed and overturned just north of Red Rover Mine Road in the Acton area, Lackey said.

The crash occurred after the driver, who was traveling at an undetermined speed, drifted into the median shoulder, Lackey said.

The vehicle continued in the dirt median, crashed into a guardrail, hit a sign off the side of the freeway and overturned into the first lane, he said.

The man died at the scene, he added.

"There's no evidence at this point of alcohol consumption," Lackey said, adding that officials are still investigating the cause and circumstances of the collision.

Officers closed the two left lanes until about 9 a.m., causing some traffic backup, Lackey said.

No other people were injured in the crash, Lackey said.
