What is Veterans Day?

The World War I armistice between the Allies and Germany went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, 1918 marking the end of the war to end all wars.

The following year, Armistice Day was proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson. After World War II and the Korean War, the memorial holiday was renamed Veterans Day to honor the sacrifices made by the war fighters of the era and that of future war fighters.

As a proud disabled veteran, I would like to remind all Americans we have hundreds of thousands of our courageous war fighters serving and sacrificing around the globe bringing hope, security and humanitarian relief to millions of people.

So on Nov. 11 please remember our veterans and their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

Fly your flag, thank a vet, send a card or care package to a deployed service member, contact your elected officials and encourage them to support veterans benefits.
