The College of the Canyons Dance Company will perform a Fall Dance Concert on Nov. 5 and 6 at 8 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons. Thirteen dances will focus on a "creation" theme.

Thirteen dances focusing on creation - creation of love, creation of the individual, creation of spirit and other aspects - is the theme of the COC Fall Dance Concert to be presented at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center Nov. 5 and 6 at 8 p.m.

Said Phylise Smith, chair of COC Dance and artistic director of the COC Dance Company, "This will be an exciting concert with something for everyone. The creation theme is broad. Everyone creates in some way. The students will demonstrate this concept through hip-hop, lyrical, jazz, ballet-influenced, modern and even pop-locking dance pieces."

Guest artists contributing choreography to the creations concert include Becca Levy, a former dancer with Lineage Dance of Pasadena, and current student at Cal Arts. Frit and Frat Fuller, of Kin Dance Company, which has toured throughout the United States, will contribute their second piece to COC Dance. They last worked with the COC Dance Company in the spring of 2009.
Faculty contributing choreography to the creation concert are Anthony Powell, Morgan Williams and Phylise Smith.

The COC Dance Company is a company of 20 and auditions are held every semester. The next audition dates are Feb. 8 and 10, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. on the Valencia campus.

Tickets for the current performance are now available and are only $10 for the general public. Peggy Annikki Lotta of the Fine Arts and Performing Division is co-producer of the COC Dance Concerts.
