Brigette Andrea Kennemore, 18, of Newhall, is missing. If you have seen her, contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Detectives continue searching for a developmentally disabled Valencia High School student who hasn't been seen since she got off a public bus earlier this week.

Relatives of the 18-year-old are worried about her and say she has difficulty on her own because of her disability.

Brigett Andrea Kennemore of Newhall was last seen walking eastbound on Hasley Canyon Road on Monday about 4:20 p.m. after getting off a Santa Clarita Transit bus just east of Cambridge Avenue, a Los Angeles County sheriff's missing persons bulletin said.

Kennemore was initially seen getting on the bus near her school, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Detective Diane Harris of the missing persons unit.

Relatives said they are worried about Kennemore.

"She has a poor sense of direction," said Debra Love, Kennemore's aunt and legal guardian until she turned 18 two weeks ago. "We're terrified that maybe she got off the bus and was disoriented or lost. ... She might have taken a ride with a stranger."

Love added that Kennemore did not have any money with her when she was last seen.

Kennemore disappeared after she called her mother and received permission to go with a friend to the friend's house to take his dog for a walk at a nearby park.

Love said she had already told her niece she was not allowed to go with the friend after the 18-year-old asked for her permission.

The woman's relatives believe the friend was on the bus while Kennemore was riding it, but detectives said they do not believe foul play was involved.

Love said Kennemore's relatives did not report her missing until Tuesday because they expected she would be back by morning.

"We got up and she still wasn't there, so we called the school," Love said.

She added that she found it odd that her niece never returned since she had made plans with her brother for this week.

Detectives, who released a flier with Kennemore's photo and description Wednesday, said the investigation is ongoing.

"She is an adult and no one has conservatorship over her, so she's allowed to make her own choices," Harris said. "But we've taken the missing persons report (and) she's been put in a nationwide missing person computer."

Kennemore is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and 160 pounds with blonde hair and hazel eyes, according to the bulletin.

She has a circular birthmark about an inch in diameter on the outside of her thigh, the bulletin said.

Kennemore was last seen wearing a black-and-white striped short-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, black and silver shoes, and a black and white plaid jacket.

She was also carrying a black-and-blue purse, the bulletin said.

Detectives advised Santa Clarita Valley residents to immediately contact officials if they see Kennemore.

"(Call) either our unit or the nearest policing agency," Harris said, "so that they can make contact with her and make sure she's okay."
