Joel Miller, D.M.D. receives prestigious LLSR award

Joel S. Miller, D.M.D. of Valencia Aesthetic Dentistry was honored witht he prestigious 2009 Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition award by the Academy of General Dentistry on July 11.

The award, presented at the Academy of General Dentistry convention in Baltimore, Md. recognized Miller’s commitment to lifelong learning, volunteer services to the communites in need, mentorship to associates and new dentists and particpation in organized dentistry. Miller is only the fourth dentist in the state of California to receive this award.

The award is formal acknowledgement of the Academy Mastership awardee’s ongoing dedication to continuing education. Masters who receive this additional recognition have completed more than 1,600 hours of continuing dental education in all disciplines of dentistry, including 550 hours dedicated to hands-on skills and techniques and more than 100 hours of service to the community.

Of the 160,000 dentists in the United States, 35,000 are members of the Academy. Only 123 Academy members have earned this award.

“Dr. Miller’s commitment to the profession, willingness to give back to his community and recognition as a role model among his peers is why he is a great example of a Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition recipient,” said Paula Jones, DDS, Academy of General Dentistry president. “His dedication is an inspiration to other members of the dental profession to continue to strive for excellence.”

Miller is a 1983 graduate of the Washington University School of Dental Medicine and currently practices in Valencia. In addition to the Academy of General Dentistry he is a member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the San Fernando Valley Dental Society, Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society and Mensa.

He is a graduate of the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies.

Miller currently practices and resides in Valencia. His son, Zachary Miller is a freshman at the University of California, Santa Barbara and his daughter, Rachel Miller is a junior at Valencia High School.
