A man is in custody after he allegedly led deputies on a short chase in a stolen car in Canyon Country earlier this week, officials said.

Deputies arrested a 28-year-old Newhall man on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent Tuesday night in the 27000 block of Camp Plenty Road, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Wright.

They also arrested the car’s passenger, a 19-year-old Canyon country man, on suspicion of drug paraphernalia possession, Wright added.

Deputies noticed the stolen car after the driver, traveling eastbound on Soledad Canyon Road near Reuther Avenue, made a traffic violation and appeared to be driving intoxicated. When they tried to pull him over, he allegedly failed to stop, Wright said.

Deputies arrested the men after they crashed into a curb, Wright said. The driver was immediately arrested but deputies had to chase after the passenger, who tried to flee, Wright added.
