A power outage in Newhall that left more than 2,400 customers in the dark for two hours last Saturday night was caused by an underground equipment failure, Southern California Edison administrators said.

The outage started about 9:20 p.m. and lasted until about 11:30 p.m., said Hilda Dalmau, the company's administrative aide for local public affairs. About 2,422 customers were affected by the outage that reached neighborhoods surroundings Lyons Avenue in the areas between and around Wiley Canyon and Orchard Village roads, she said.
