About 350 junior high school students will be participating in the city’s 2009 youth summit today.

All of the junior high schools in the Hart School District, as well as Castaic Middle School, will be participating in the event, said Janine Prado, community services administrator for the city’s community services division.

Kids will be encouraged to participate in activities that will focus on teaching students to respect their peers and build self-esteem.

Discussions will cover a wide spectrum, from bullies to graffiti, Prado said.

The event is part of Santa Clarita’s Youth and Family Programs which also provides parenting classes and workshops.

The summit will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sports Complex Activities Center, at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway.
