Joe Messina is known as a staunch supporter of getting Castaic High School built, but that is just one of the issues he is fighting for.

Talking to him, you will see he has a passion for getting kids the training they need for life. Not only does Messina talk about improving the school system so our high school seniors enter college better prepared, but he also has a passion for helping those who may not see the value of academics.

Most of us have had that one teacher who turned the light on in our minds. For Messina, it was the guidance of his electric shop teacher who made a difference in his life. That’s where he received the encouragement to go into the IT field, becoming very successful.

The direction he obtained from his shop class and Messina’s strong moral desire to help others succeed has brought him to champion the fight to expand career and technical Education.

Messina will be quick to tell you about the importance of adequate career education to help those kids who need who something extra to keep them in school.

The programs Messina is talking about are the kinds of things that keep those kids in school. This eventually benefits everyone — our young people and the community at large.

Another thing that should be highlighted about Messina is his involvement in youth activities. Messina has an impressive record of involvement, in part, having been on the board of directors for the SCV Youth Project, the SCV Education Foundation and Santa Clarita Christian Center.

He served on the SCV Education Foundation Teacher Tribute Committee, the Saugus High School PTSA as president and Junior Achievers instructor, among many other groups and activities benefiting our youth.

In November’s election, remember Messina’s passion to help our youth.
