Scooter, the 14-and-a-half-year-old "official greeter" of Valencia Acura died Monday.

Half of the Valencia Acura dealership's Scooter and Spark Plug mascot team, Scooter, a Shih Tzu, was diagnosed with intestinal cancer in July. He was a familiar sight at Valencia Acura where he greeted guests in the dealership's showroom. Scooter first came to work at Valencia Acura at age 2 when Don and Cheri Fleming bought the dealership in 1997.

"He's been working at the dealership as long as we've been there," Cheri Fleming said. "I remember hosting Chamber of Commerce mixers and Scooter was a champion at greeting all 500 guests. He is very missed at Valencia Acura."

A page on the dealership's Web site shows a photo of Scooter and Spark Plug that also offers "Scooter and Spark Plug's used car specials."

Scooter and Spark Plug have also been prominently featured in past commercials and advertising for the dealership.

Scooter was also the co-chairman of the first Santa Clarita Valley Arthritis Walk in 2004.

"Dogs get arthritis, too, and it made sense to have him co-chair the walk with me," Fleming said.
