DUI checkpoint in Newhall nets three

Two drivers were arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and a third driver was arrested for felony drug possession during a D.U.I. checkpoint Friday night in Newhall.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Traffic Services Detail conducted the checkpoint.

Authorities issued seven citations were issued for California vehicle code violations and four vehicles were impounded. A total of 1,906 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 1,604 were screened.

The checkpoint, which began at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9 and concluded at 3 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, was set up on Newhall Avenue at Valle Del Oro.

The goal of the checkpoint was to educate residents on the hazards of drunk driving while enforcing California's D.U.I. laws.

The checkpoints are an ongoing attempt to safely remove drunk drivers from our streets and deter those who may be considering drinking and driving.

Funding for this enforcement and prevention program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.
