A Palmdale man is due in court today after he pointed a gun at another driver in Canyon Country during a road rage incident earlier this week, authorities said.

Deputies had on Wednesday arrested Jorge Aranda, 26, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a firearm and possession of an unregistered firearm, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Brenda Cambra.

Because Aranda is on parole, he also faces possible charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition as a felon and a drug addict, Cambra said.

About 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aranda pointed the gun at a Canyon Country woman on Via Princessa, south of Whites Canyon Road, Cambra said.

Deputies pulled over Aranda at Placerita Canyon Road and Sierra Highway when they spotted his car, a silver convertible that matched the woman’s description, Cambra said.

They found an unloaded gun and bullets in the vehicle and arrested him at about 4:15 p.m., she said.

Cambra said drivers should follow safety tips to avoid escalated road rage incidents.

“If you believe that someone is angry with you while driving, put distance between that vehicle and yours,” she said. “If you feel the person is following you, don’t drive home. Go to the sheriff’s station or another safe, populated place ... and never pull over.”

She also said drivers should do their best to calm their own road rage.

“Remember, people make mistakes,” she said. “(Drivers) should really be courteous to other people.”
