Wildcats host first band competition

West Ranch troop moves up to large-school division in fourth year

The 2009-10 West Ranch Wildcat Marching Band and Color Guard prepares for its upcoming season.

The West Ranch Wildcat Marching Band and Color Guard have been competing for only four years.

In that time, it has grown from parade exhibitions to a Division 2A contender and into the Division 3A Champions and High Auxiliary for the last two years.

This year, the band will move into the 5A Division making the West Ranch team the largest competitive high school marching band in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The West Ranch High School Marching Band and Color Guard perform its field show at every home football game. Home games are played on the Valencia High School field and are scheduled for Oct. 9, Oct. 30 and Nov. 6.

In addition, the first field competition, the Wildcat Classic, will be hosted by West Ranch High School on Saturday at Valencia High School. This will be the Wildcats first time hosting a field show competition. Every high school in the Santa Clarita Valley is expected to compete.  

The following are the dates of all the field show competitions the Wildcats’ will participate in this season:

Oct. 10 ­— Wildcat Classic, Valencia High School
Oct. 17 — Downey
Oct. 31 — LA Regional
Nov. 7 — Rampage, College of the Canyons
Nov. 14 — Eleanor Roosevelt
Nov. 21 — Moorpark
Dec. 5 — finals, location to be determined
