A homeless man is behind bars after a deputy caught him unloading ammunition from a handgun in his van and found two other guns in the vehicle at Canyon Country Park on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Deputies arrested Eugene Miller, 61, at 11:45 a.m. after a deputy responded to a call from a resident who saw Miller with the gun, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Darren Harris said.

The deputy approached Miller, who sat in the driver’s seat of the van beside another man and unloaded .25 semi-automatic handgun.

After further investigation, the deputy found a loaded 12-gauge shotgun and an unloaded .22 caliber revolver, Harris said. One of the handguns had an altered serial number.

Miller was arrested on suspicion of possession of a loaded handgun and posession of a firearm with an altered serial number.

He is being held in lieu of $35,000 bail.
