Obama's speech OK

It is absolutely mind-boggling to me that here in America, our school systems and media can be so heavily influenced by fear-mongering and hatred. In virtually every other country on this planet, if a leader has a speech to give, the speech is available to citizens of that country to hear.

Only in America would we allow partisan rhetoric and downright bullying of school administrations to stand in the way of a positive message being brought to our children regarding education.

Media, as usual, are as much to blame as anyone, because they perpetuated the "controversial story" which, of course, turned out to be a non-controversial non-story.

It was nothing more than the concerned advice of an adult to children. Just happened that the concerned adult turned out to be the president.

Obviously, the people against the speech were not concerned adults. The text of the speech was made available prior to the presentation. I'm sure no one who was against the speech bothered to read it before acting like idiots and depriving their children of great words of wisdom.

I hope all the individuals, groups and organizations who protested and were successful in keeping schoolchildren from hearing the president's speech actually listened to his inspiring message.

If they did, they would see how ludicrous their actions were and hopefully they will allow their children to watch the speech online, so the president's message of doing well in school can supplement their own message as parents.

There was nothing political about the president's words save for, "You need to work hard to keep America strong. Our future depends on you."

I ask you: What is wrong with that?
