A Newhall man is behind bars Friday after the clerk at a liquor store the man allegedly robbed spotted him sitting at a Canyon Country bus stop and called police.

Omar Labra, 24, was being held at Pitchess Detention Center in lieu of $310,000 bail after he was identified by the clerk and another clerk who were working on Jan. 29 when Labra allegedly held up the liquor store.

Both clerks said Labra was a regular customer at the Santa Clarita store.

He allegedly entered the business in disguise and with a rifle shoved down a leg of his pants on Jan. 29, then pulled the rifle out and pointed it at the female clerk.

The male clerk ran into the store from the rear and hit Labra on the head with a bottle, according to a Sheriff's Department report.
The suspect had a hard time manipulating the rifle to aim at the male clerk, who had run out of the store by the time the robber succeeded.

The suspect was able to flee with an undisclosed amount of cash.

On Feb. 3, the Santa Clarita Valley Station's robbery and assault team served a warrant at a home in the 23700 block of Valle del Oro, recovering the .22-caliber rifle believed to be used in the robbery, along with three other guns and the money believed to be stolen from the store, according to the report.

Detectives had connected the gun with several other robberies and guns that led up to the warrant search, but they were unable to arrest anyone because the suspect's identity remained unknown.

But on Sept. 14, as the male clerk drove down Sierra Highway, he spotted Labra sitting on a bus bench, the report said.

Deputies immediately responded to the area and arrested the suspect, who is expected to appear at Santa Clarita Superior Court on Oct. 5.
