Life Academy takes on new life

First Presbyterian Church in Newhall is sponsoring free Life Academy courses running from Oct. 4 to Nov. 8, designed to allow the community to attend and learn.

"Life Academy features short courses of study for adults on the Bible, rearing children and understanding other religions," said Jack Irwin, Elder and head of Adult Education Committee.

Art Moor will lead a class on whether Israel has the right to exist, and will have guest speakers exploring various events, including the rise and fall of ancient Israel and prophecy about the future of Israel. The class will be held in six sessions at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25, and Nov. 1 and 8.

A class covering Christian faith, theology and history will be held in two sessions at 10: 45 a.m. Oct. 4 and 11.

A class covering how dance was historically a part of worship, but now is relatively unknown, Oct. 25, and Nov. 1.

Another class will explore the first Christians and First Creed on Nov. 8.

What makes an effective leader in three sessions at noon on Oct. 4,11, and 18.

Good and bad girls of the Bible will be held at noon on Nov. 1 and 8.

The genius of the creator will be explored by Dr. Jeff Zweerink, a research astrophysicist at UCLA, at 7 p.m. Oct. 4 and 11.

Classes in understanding the way Muslims look at the world, faith, and culture will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 and 25.

Pastora Amparo Cevallos, co-pastor of Centro de Amor Cristiano, will discuss the mission of her church in Newhall at 7 p.m. Oct. 7.

Prayer as a secret weapon will be hosted at 7 p.m. Oct. 14, 21, and 28.

All the classes are held on the church premises at 24317 Newhall Avenue in Newhall. Registration for classes is underway. The classes are free and open to the public.
