Decoro editorial obnoxious

I missed the town meeting on Sept. 3 because my wife and I were on vacation. After we returned I checked your Web site and read the article about the results of the town meeting and some letters, plus The Signal's Sept. 5 editorial ("Bike lanes, open ears and the culture of entitlement").

We are among those folks who live near Decoro Drive and who opposed (after-the-fact) the changed striping on Decoro Drive. I wrote my opposition to the city manager and Councilman Bob Kellar before we left town. I also had occasion to speak with Councilman Kellar before we left.

I disagree with your editorial position. We have lived in this town for many years and quit our subscription to The Signal years ago when the then-owner/editor seemed to be obsessed with bodily functions and human private parts. Almost every issue had a prominent reference to one or both. Recently, we took a one-year subscription when a neighbor was raising funds by selling subscriptions.

However, we let the subscription lapse for several reasons.

We were unaware of the city's stance on bicycles and what that position would mean to traffic engineering in our neighborhood.

Now I'm told in your editorial that we should have known about the city's planned bicycle-friendly plan, hence the re- striping on Decoro Drive should have come as no surprise.

Must we be subscribers to your newspaper to be considered competent citizens of the community and to express an opinion about the re-striping of Decoro Drive? I don't think so.

For those of us who choose not to subscribe to the local newspaper, the city should take other measures to inform local residents of major changes such as the re-striping of Decoro Drive. That we were not informed of the bicycle policy and the re-striping plan is not our fault.

And for you to write that it is, is just obnoxious and shallow.
