The public option?

I admit, I, like the president, haven't read much of the so-called public option health reform bills. However, unlike the president, I don't need to read them to know they are bad.

First, let's call it what it is: government-run health care. To call it an option is just a flat-out lie. Knowing that providing health coverage to employees is one of businesses' largest expenses, it would only make sense to drop the program in favor of the government plan.

Once that is done, what options will there really be? Oh, sure, you can still buy insurance - that is, if the big bad insurance companies are still selling it. It is also a lie that it will reduce expenses. There is no conceivable way to add tens of millions to a plan and reduce what it costs for its administration. No economist worth his or her salt can provide a logical explanation of how that will work.

Why? Because it won't.

The $100 million the president lauded as cost savings is laughable at best and just plain ignorant at worst, and further shows his complete lack of understanding of the issue in its entirety.

Let's cut to the chase here. What we're talking about is access to health insurance, not health care. We all have access to health care, and there are some who choose not to have health insurance. It is a choice, not a right.

In the end, the government's lack of options plan will not cost less because there will be millions added to the plan without the necessary resources (doctors) to meet the need, and there will be no competition for premium dollars.

This proposal is what the government wants you to have, not necessarily what is best for you, and the fact that none of your elected officials will be on the plan should tell you all you need to know. Don't fall for the lies.

Yes, reform is needed, but it's not health care reform. Allow insurance companies to sell nationwide and I guarantee the cost of health insurance premiums will come way down. This president and his cronies just don't get it.
