The right two lanes just north of the McBean Parkway offramp were shut down as fire crews quickly put out the fire. Within 30 minutes of the fire, traffic along southbound I-5 was backed up as far north as Newhall Ranch Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the engine caught on fire as the truck was travelling on the freeway. However, the driver was able to safely pull over to the right shoulder before the driver's cabin burst into flames.

No one was injuried.
