Crime watch: CHP busts driver for transporting marijuana

Cash, 34 pounds of pot found in truck.

More than 34 pounds of marijuana and $1,800 in cash were found after a California Highway Patrol officer stopped a pickup truck for speeding on Interstate 5 north of Smokey Bear Road, officials said today.

Aron Michael Parks, 29, was driving his Dodge Ram pickup truck on the southbound I-5 when he was pulled over by CHP for speeding late Monday, officials said.

When the officer approached the vehicle, he smelled the odor of marijuana and conducted a search of the vehicle. The search yielded four duffle bags containing 34 pounds of marijuana and more than $1,800 in cash.

Parks, from Sonoma County in Northern California, was arrested on charges of transporting marijuana.
