The Saugus High girls soccer team now finds itself in a place no Centurions girls soccer team has ever been before.
With a 4-0 win at home over Golden Valley on Tuesday, Saugus (17-2-3, 7-1-1) clinched its first outright Foothill League title.
It's the first league title for Saugus since 1995, a year in which it shared the championship with Hart.
"I think it hasn't sunk in with them because we still have a game left," said head coach Lisa Rollo. "They aren't reaping the benefits yet because the season isn't over."
A win over the Indians on Monday gave Saugus a five-point cushion in points heading into Tuesday, and it was able to seal the deal against the Grizzlies.
Brielle Slepicoff scored a pair of goals, while Jamie Kucharski and Erin Ortega each added a goal.
Rollo said she thinks her team peaked at just the right time.
The league season did not start out well for the Centurions, who lost to Hart 3-1 in their opener.
"Season came and the Hart game just floored us," Rollo said. "It just hit us like a brick wall. I don't think anyone anticipated that. Hart woke us up."
Saugus has now won six straight games and its defense has given up just one goal since the loss to Hart.
