Music in the SCV

Performances in varied genres and settings await you

Neil Giraldo and Pat Benatar celebrated the 30th anniversary of Benatar's 1979 debut album with a tour, including a Sept. 11 concert at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center.

Fans of local live music (and/or karaoke and/or good beer) all mourned the closing of the Londoner pub in Canyon Country recently. And it came at a really bad time - just as the SCV's summer outdoor concerts concluded. But those truly in the know, know, that local music lives on - in a wide variety of genres and in a diverse array of venues.

You've got your top-shelf settings, such as the Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons, bringing you cabaret-style performances, holiday concerts and big names, including Kris Kristofferson - and the Roy O. Disney Music Hall at Cal Arts, bringing you more eclectic offerings.

You've got your intimate wine bars and restaurants with rock bands, Latin, jazz and blues, and even rare concerts at the Canyon Theatre Guild. Every "Third Friday" (not always to be taken literally), up and coming young bands perform at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex.

And, of course, karaoke is offered in many locations around the SCV. For that, I like the atmosphere at Bergie's. Other Signal staffers recommend Mulligan's.

The point is, you do not have to be musically-starved this fall and winter, and you don't have to go "over the hill" - though we've added CSUN and the The Canyon Club to our list, just in case you want to.

So here, compliments of Escape, is a smattering of the music venues you might sample. But be sure to confirm details before you invite all your out-of-town friends. Things do change.
