The Valencia High School varsity dance team continued its winning ways by following its unprecedented three national titles last June with top honors at the recent United Spirit Association Elite Dance Camp.

The 25-member national championship team was recognized as the Hardest Working Team at the invitation-only dance camp. In addition, they received the highly coveted Superior Choreography-to-Go and Superior Showcase Dance awards for their performances.

The dancers also showed great camaraderie and were one of the few teams to be given a spirit stick.

“This was such a wonderful way to begin the dance year and shows that hard work really does pay off,” said dance team advisor Eve Itaya.

Along with team accolades there was individual recognition too. Junior Brooke Radding received the highest individual award of Super Sensational Dancer, beating out all of the camp dance participants.

This year’s team is led by captain’s Alex Chernos, Sierra Gordon, Becca Herd, Chelsea Itaya, Chrissy Spengler, and Chelsea Van Name. Other team members include  Rachel Chernos, Ashley Clifford, Danielle Dardis, Marlee Feinholz, Emily Gasper, Torey Itaya, Carly Janusek, Kayte Largman, Chase Lehner, Siri Loken, Tasia Moore, Emily Morgan, Tori Pinkston, Brooke Radding, Chelsea Raff, Sarah Ruffner, Nicole Timpone, and Danica Wilkerson.

The team will be performing at half time at the varsity football game against Birmingham on Sept. 17.
