Saugus High School will be passing the plate — or rather the boot — at Thursday’s football game to raise money for victims of the Station Fire, a local firefighter said Tuesday.

Among those who lost their homes were some of the firefighters he works with, said Ricky Hilstein, a firefighter with the U.S. Forest Service.

“They tried to save their own homes and they lost them,” he said.

Twelve families or individuals who lost their homes in the Station Fire will benefit from donations when fire boots and helmets are passed around the stands at Thursday night’s Saugus vs. Westlake game at Cougar Stadium.

Those who want to help but won’t be at the game can call Saugus High School at (661) 297-3900 and ask for Crystal Hilstein.
