17 teachers named Hart 'Best of the Best'

Seventeen of the Hart district's teachers have been named Teacher of the Year by their peers and school administrators.

The teachers will gather at the Sept. 16 meeting of the William S. Hart Union High School District board where one will be named the district's top Teacher of the Year and will represent the district in the Los Angeles County competition.

This year's winners are:
n Bruce Arnold, a special education teacher at Placerita Junior High School.
n Zaid Bakoo, an American Government and AP Government and Politics teacher at Saugus High School, where he also serves as the school's intervention coordinator and served as a summer school administrative intern.
n Brady Burrill, a math teacher and baseball coach at West Ranch High School.
n Christine Enns, the choral music teacher at Valencia High School.
n Mary Gaskin, an art teacher since 2004 at Bowman High School.
n Jeff Gilbert, the music teacher at Rio Norte Junior High.
n Jamie Hawn, a teacher at Golden Oak Adult School, who instructs students seeking to obtain their high school diploma or GED.
n Daren Hoisington, an Honors English teacher for 10th- and 12-graders and yearbook instructor at Academy of the Canyons.
n Jennifer Huhn, a special education teacher at Golden Valley High School.
n Nelson King, La Mesa Junior High School's world history and geography class teacher.
n Lori Ann Levy-Holm, an art teacher at Rancho Pico Junior High.
n Laura Luxmore, an English, music and ASB teacher to special needs students at Sequoia Charter School.
n Chris Mansfield, math teacher at Hart High School, where he also coaches the school's both the boys and girls tennis teams and is a district mentor teacher.
n Brenda Monteleone, an English teacher at Arroyo Seco Junior High, where she teaches both seventh- and eighth-grade students.
n Mike Motherspaw, an Algebra, Biology and AP Environmental Science teacher. He also serves as a boys basketball coach.
n Ilona Pennay, a seventh- and eighth-grade English teacher at Sierra Vista Junior High.
n Jennie Siemens joined the staff at Early College High School in 2007 as an algebra and freshman seminar teacher. She currently teaches math at Academy of the Canyons.
