A Hart district staff member accused of inappropriate contact with a student has resigned from the district, according to a statement released Friday.

The resignation takes effect in June, and the counselor will be paid through the end of the school year, district officials said.

The Signal reported last month that a William S. Hart Union High School District employee was under investigation for allegedly having an "inappropriate" relationship with a 16-year-old student. The employee in question is a female counselor, a source told The Signal.

The staff member had been placed on administrative leave, district officials said last month.

"The Hart District takes such allegations very seriously and will continue to focus on the protection and safety of students in our schools, while protecting the privacy of any students or employees who may be involved," the statement said.
