Lunetta logic is off

To Steve Lunetta regarding your Aug. 31 Ted Kennedy column (“Death of a lion?”); your logic is all wrong.

You stated Kennedy walked through the Pearly Gates, saw Mary Jo Kopechne who asked, “Why?”

By “Pearly Gates” I assume you mean “heaven,” assume you are of the Judeo-Christian tradition and that you believe in heaven.

If you so believe, then you should know Mary Jo is in a divine state of grace.

It is more likely, then, that Mary Jo said to Kennedy, “I forgive you.”

More poor logic is found in your declarations, Kennedy walked through the Pearly Gates and Kennedy was a murderer.

If Kennedy was truly a murderer, he would not be in heaven.

The definition of murder is to kill with malice aforethought.

At Chappaquiddick there was no premeditation whatsoever.

What happened to Mary Jo was a tragic accident.

What happened after was extremely poor judgment on Kennedy’s part, not murder.

Christians believe Jesus died for our sins. Kennedy was Christian, specifically Catholic.

The Catholic tradition includes the Sacrament of Confession for redemption.

Kennedy, a devout Catholic, certainly went to confession regularly and likely confessed his sin involving Mary Jo.

Thus, he was forgiven. But as you should know, that is between Ted and God.

Jesus taught us to not judge.

You avowed Kennedy sponsored legislation “under the guise of compassion and fighting injustice.”

Christ taught us compassion and to fight injustice. Much of Kennedy’s legislation was Christ-like.

Consider universal health care: Jesus said, “Visit the sick.” In Jesus’ day one could not do much for the sick besides anoint them with oil, offer herbs and visit.

Jesus also said, “What you do for the least of my brethren, you do for me.” Regarding gun control, recall the Commandment, “Thou shalt not kill.”

Study your logic and your Bible.
