No disrespect to McCain

To The Editor:

I would like to respond to a recent letter demeaning the people, statements and events at the April 24 Democratic Alliance for Action meeting ("No more cheap shots," May 4, 2008).

As part of the meeting, Joyce Evans presented a short quiz asking multiple-choice and true-or-false questions about John McCain's professional life and voting positions.

All of the answers were thoroughly fact-checked. Some of the answers may have been surprising, and therefore amusing, but at no time was there any disrespect shown to Senator McCain.

Senator McCain's voting record on veterans' issues and his public statements on social issues are exactly the things that an electorate needs to look at before deciding on its vote. It is interesting to look at his lack of support for core veterans' issues and how his statements on issues important to the religious right have evolved.

If it were a Democratic candidate speaking, the Republicans would label it a "flip-flop."

The DAA has no problem with anyone supporting anyone they wish for president, but a Democrat bad-mouthing other Democrats, especially in the press, makes me wonder what his true agenda might be.

The DAA remains inclusive of a wide variety of opinions. Anyone who wants to see how we support all of our candidates is welcome at our monthly meetings. For details, go to www.daa.org.
